The color of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate is green, monoclinic crystal or particle, no odor, relative density 1.898, melting point 64ºC. Easily soluble in water, (48.6g/100ml water at 50ºC) red heat decomposition to form ferric trioxide, soluble in glycerol, insoluble in ethanol, corrosive, in dry air will be weathered. At 56.6ºC, the heptahydrate is transformed into tetrachlates, and at 64.6ºC, it becomes monohydrate. At 90ºC, six crystalline water is lost, and at 300ºC, all crystalline water is lost to form anhydrous substance. At red heat, SO2 and SO3 are decomposed and released. It's corrosive. It fluoresces in dry air. The anhydrous substance is a white powder, but when it is mixed with water it turns blue-green.
